…summer reminders…

I love summers mainly because I get to spend so much time outdoors in the beautiful sunny weather, and I am so grateful for not having to worry about scraping snow off my car in the morning. My summers are filled with long hikes, evening walks with picture perfect sunsets, running outside with a cool breeze on my back, sipping iced coffees on patios, and hanging out with my friends downtown. I believe summers are meant to be experienced outside, especially where I live. People come out of hibernation after the cold of winter has passed and start living their lives outdoors from sunrise to sunset. The community has a sense of gratitude towards the season and landscape change.

While spending my summer outdoors, I have more time to also enjoy the mountains, the fresh grass, the colorful sunsets, the monsoon clouds in the sky, and the beautiful flowers in full bloom. And it reminds me that God is a creator and that he created this summer full of its wonder. I am filled with an appreciation and praise for a God that is constantly creating new evening sunsets to the wild flowers on the trails. And I’m also reminded that if God puts so much attention to detail in his sunsets and sunrises, how much more is he mindful of us as His creation and is constantly working on us. Let the outdoors remind you that God is alive and continually working on our lives to create something beautiful.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? –Psalm 8:3-4

These are the lyrics of one of my favorite songs as a kid, and still to this day it also reminds me that God is the ultimate creator and that he cares enough about me that he is continually working on my heart and molding me into the woman that he created me to be.

He’s still working on me
To make me what I need to be
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be
‘Cause He’s still workin’ on me

There really ought to be a sign upon my heart
Don’t judge him yet, there’s an unfinished part
But I’ll be better just according to His plan
Fashioned by the Master’s loving hands

In the mirror of His word
Reflections that I see
Makes me wonder why He never gave up on me
But He loves me as I am and helps me when I pray
Remember He’s the potter; I’m the clay

Take time this week to recognize and praise God for all that he has created.
