As some of you may know, I’m in the process of job searching and seeing where I am meant to go next. Mind you, I am super thankful for the job that I have now and the work that I get to do, but I’m looking to continue to grow as professional and to take the next step in my career. In applying for jobs, naturally you’re going to have some wins and you’re going to have some loses. It’s hard not to let rejection go to your heart. As much as I want to move on from those losses, it’s hard not to get down when you get your hopes up for an opportunity and then it doesn’t happen. It has also been scary because if you think something is great and then it doesn’t work out, it’s hard to imagine what else could come along that could be better.
I’m learning to trust God’s plan, even when it hurts and it’s hard. But I suppose that would be the case with faith because you are believing in something that is not quite in front of you…yet. And that is where the trust comes in. Trusting that no matter what happens, God has your best interests in mind which requires me to give up control and the need for everything to happen just the way I have planned. My control is so tight sometimes that it doesn’t give God much room to work; it’s like clenching my fists so tight that my knuckles get sore and my fingers turn white. I need to loosen my grip and let go, and let God.
So here’s my new action plan for myself– Faith is believing in God’s plan unseen which requires that I trust that God’s plan is perfect, and I need to submit control to give room to allow God’s plan to happen.
Sometimes you need to give yourself a pep-talk to get through the hard moments, and some Bible verses to inspire you along the way.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1: 2-4
“For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.” Psalm 33: 4-5
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40: 28-31
